We are thrilled to announce the launch of a groundbreaking new academic journal: the Journal of Artificial Intelligence for Sustainable Development (JAISD). This innovative publication is dedicated to exploring the role of artificial intelligence in fostering sustainable development across the globe.
In a world where environmental challenges are becoming increasingly complex, JAISD provides a crucial platform for researchers and practitioners to share insights and developments in AI that contribute to sustainability. The journal is backed by the NAIXUS Network of Excellence and covers a broad spectrum of topics, including but not limited to, AI in climate action, sustainable urban planning, and AI-driven strategies for conservation.
JAISD is now inviting researchers, scholars, and experts in the field to submit their original research articles, comprehensive reviews, and case studies for its inaugural issue. The journal seeks high-quality, rigorously peer-reviewed contributions that push the boundaries of knowledge and propose innovative solutions to environmental and societal issues.
The first inaugural issue is expected to be published on 17 March 2024 at the 20th anniversary of the establishment of AIMS, the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS) celebrating Africa’s rich mathematical heritage and promote growth in scientific endeavours across the world.

Launch of the Journal of Artificial Intelligence for Sustainable Development (JAISD): Bridging AI and Sustainability
The academic and research community is set to welcome a significant addition to the world of scholarly publications: the Journal of Artificial Intelligence for Sustainable Development (JAISD). This pioneering journal focuses on the intersection of cutting-edge artificial intelligence technologies and sustainable development goals. JAISD aims to publish insightful research and findings that contribute to the advancement of AI applications in solving critical environmental and societal challenges.
About
The Journal of Artificial Intelligence for Sustainable Development (JAISD) aims to bridge the gap between AI advancements and sustainable development goals. We prioritize high-quality, peer-reviewed research that underscores the transformative impact of AI on global challenges such as climate change, healthcare, and equitable education.
The JAISD is being conceptualised through the NAIXUS Network of Excellence, a Network for Artificial Intelligence, Knowledge and SUStainable development – a nexus and central meeting point between AI and SDGs. The initial partners are coming from Slovenia, Australia, Andorra, Brazil, Chile, Finland, France, Ghana, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Kenya, Mexico, Netherlands, Nigeria, Pakistan, Senegal, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Tanzania, UK and USA.
The network is expected to mobilise researchers to collaborate on key AI methods and Sustainable Development domain topics, to reach critical mass on these topics and to collaborate across cultural and language barriers and focus on the science that is much needed to push the efforts. Since its launch in March 2021, core partners have been having extensive conversations with partners across 5 UN regions and plans to launch the network in its current form during the STI 2022 forum.
The Journal has been conceptualised in 2020 and established in 2024, and it provides an international forum for the digital publication of high-quality scholarly articles in all areas of artificial intelligence and sustainable development. All published papers are and will be freely available online.
